Why do we show our Ragdoll Cats & Kittens?
The purpose of showing a cat as a preservation breeder is multifaceted and serves several important roles:
-
Breed Preservation: Showing allows preservation breeders to showcase their cats against breed standards. This helps maintain and improve the breed's characteristics over generations, ensuring they adhere to the ideal set by breed standards.
-
Quality Assessment: Showing provides a platform to evaluate breeding stock objectively. Judges assess the cat's conformation, temperament, coat quality, and other breed-specific attributes. This helps breeders make informed decisions about which cats to include in their breeding program to strengthen the breed.
-
Public Awareness and Education: Shows offer an opportunity to educate the public about the breed's unique qualities, temperament, and care requirements. This helps potential owners make informed decisions when choosing a breed, promoting responsible pet ownership.
-
Networking and Collaboration: Shows facilitate networking among breeders, allowing them to exchange knowledge, genetic lines, and breeding practices. This collaboration is essential for maintaining genetic diversity and avoiding inbreeding, which can lead to health issues.
-
Recognition and Validation: Achieving titles and awards at shows validates a breeder's efforts in producing high-quality cats that conform to breed standards. It also enhances the reputation of the breeder and their cattery within the breeding community and among potential buyers.
In summary, showing cats as a preservation breeder supports the conservation of breed standards, facilitates responsible breeding practices, educates the public, fosters collaboration within the breeding community, and validates the quality of a breeder's efforts.
